Greetings from the Director

Rhythm and pulse are integral elements of the human fabric. Percussion as an art form is highly regarded in many world cultures.

Asheville Rhythm seeks to promote and foster musical diversity through education and community building. The Festival includes a week-long artist residency and intensive study program, a weekend of drumming clinics, demonstrations, children’s workshops, percussion vending, free performances open to the public, and a full-length concert featuring solo performances and innovative original music created by the world-class teaching artists.

A primary goal is to find a location in Asheville as the permanent home for the "Asheville Rhythm Center", where all our activities will take place: percussion and dance classes for all ages, outreach programs, music therapy programs, Sound Immersions, Yoga with a Pulse, a recording studio, weekend retreats facilitated by visiting artists, and our acclaimed yearly Percussion Festival.

We walk in rhythm and our hearts beat in rhythm. Endless studies show the positive effect on the individual as a whole through playing music. Drumming creates biological re-patterning in the body and activates the mind through right and left brain synchronizations. This phenomenon opens new pathways to creativity and imagination that can be applied to all aspects of life and work.

We hope that you will join us in our efforts to promote tradition, collaboration, innovation, education and community building for Ashevillians of all ages.

In Rhythm,
River Guerguerian
