Monday June 24-Wednesday June 26

3-day intermediate level intensive with Master Frame Drummer Glen Velez, periodically accompanied by vocalist Loire Cotler. (Includes the opportunity to audition for a chance to perform a composition with Glen Velez and Loire Cotler.)

Full day intro-level intensive on Middle Eastern Drumming featuring Doumbek/Tonbak/Frame Drum with Naghmeh Farahmand.

Potluck for the Intensive Students and Asheville Rhythm community to welcome our Residency Artists hosted by Dr. Joan Chesick, Homegrown Hearing, at her Green Goddess Farm.

Meet the Artists, Musical Interlude and Sound Meditation. Join us to mingle with our Percussion Festival Artists, be entertained by the exotic sounds of the Baharat Band from New York City, Adam Maalouf, Michael Burdi, and Miguel Santamaria, 7:20-8:00pm, and finish the evening with a soothing, restorative Sound Meditation by Megan Sprague 8-8:45pm.
In the 2nd floor foyer and meeting rooms. Cash Bar available in the downstairs lobby.

Half day intro-level intensive on Zimbabwean style Marimba with Sue Ford & Village Marimba.
Throughout the workshop, participants will learn different parts to a composition and be able to play them together as an ensemble. Instruments and mallets will be provided.

Free Planetary Sounds Workshop with Billy Zanski.
In this workshop we will explore the frequencies of celestial bodies and how to play gongs that are tuned to these Planetary vibrations. We will have hands on practice with Alchemy bowls, Quartz bowls, monochords, and many other sound therapy tools. We will also learn how to create different energies and feelings through a range of musical scales.

Friday June 28

Brazilian Percussion Ensemble Workshop with Zabumba Asheville Samba facilitated by Diana Loomer and Agustin Frederic. Different types of Samba percussion instruments will be demonstrated and taught. Throughout the workshop, participants will learn different parts to a composition and be able to play them together as an ensemble. Instruments will be provided.

Monday July 1
10am-4:30pm - River’s Studio
Full day intensive on creating a Hybrid Drum Kit with River Guerguerian. Will include instruction on how to play both hand and stick drums, cymbals, shakers, and foot pedals. From simple to complex.

Hello Percussionists & Rhythm Lovers,
We are excited that you have chosen to attend our 8th Annual Asheville Percussion Festival 2019! Our world-class faculty creates a unique and inspiring musical experience for everyone involved. The mission of Asheville Rhythm is to provide a creative environment where percussionists of all traditions gather to explore, create and innovate.
CONCERT GOERS:
The Saturday evening Masters Concert will take place June 29 at 8:00pm at the Diana Wortham Theatre, 18 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville. The concert will feature collaborative compositions from our world-renowned teaching artists. Please allow extra time to park.
SCHEDULE:

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
- Please bring your own instruments. If you would like to borrow one please let us know: ashevillepercussion@gmail.com
(limited number of Congas, Djembes, Frame Drums and Doumbeks available)
- Writing utensil and/or personal recording device for classes and jam sessions.
- Bottled water/drink and snacks. Some may be available for sale.
- Yoga mat for sound meditation if you wish to lie down. There will be chairs.
- A joyful willingness to share and learn about the wonderful world of Percussion!
VENDING:
There will be vending during the Intensive week that will feature products from local and national drum makers including Cooperman Frame Drums, Medicine Wind Flutes, Carolina Drumworks Snare Drums, Meinl Percussion, Skinny Beats Drum Shop, TMF Drums.

If you are flying into the Asheville-Hendersonville regional airport, downtown Asheville is 20 minutes away. Greenville/Spartanburg, SC (GSP) is a 75 minute drive. Charlotte NC (CLT) is a 2 hour drive.
